March Activities at Home
Emotion Charades
How to Play
Create emotion cue cards by writing emotion words or drawing facial expressions (e.g. happy, sad, sick, angry) on paper plates, index cards, or sticky notes.
Place the emotion cards in a basket or spread them out on a table.
Have the child pick a card and:
Act out the emotion (e.g., make a sad face, jump for joy, etc.).
Describe a time they felt that way.
Match the emotion to a situation (e.g., “What makes you feel excited?”).
Continue playing until all emotions have been explored.
Alter the rules to fit your kiddo!
Ways to increase the challenge
Describe a hypothetical situation and ask the child to identify and express how someone might feel in that scenario.
Discuss and model coping strategies for difficult emotions
Ask the child to draw a picture of themselves experiencing that emotion.
Ways to decrease the challenge
Use simple pictures or emojis instead of words.
Limit the number of emotions to 2-3 at a time.
Model the emotion to promote awareness and understanding
