LMNOP at AbilOT

The LMNOP Group at GiGi's Playhouse: Empowering Families and Children with Down Syndrome

At GiGi’s Playhouse, the heart of their mission is to provide a supportive, welcoming environment for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Among the many incredible programs they offer, one of the most popular and impactful is the LMNOP group—a program dedicated to the growth and development of children with Down syndrome and the families who love them.

At AbilOT Kids Therapy, we’ve partnered with Gigi’s Playhouse to bring this educational and family centered group to our Clayton office to help expand their reach within the community!

What is the LMNOP Group?

The LMNOP group at GiGi’s Playhouse stands for Language, Music, “N” Our, and Peeps. This group targets key areas of early childhood development that are fundamental in laying the foundation for a child's success. This program is designed specifically for children between the ages of 0-3, and its primary goal is to promote developmental milestones through a variety of fun and engaging activities.

The LMNOP group offers an inclusive space for children with Down syndrome to interact with peers, engage in age-appropriate activities, and explore new ways to learn. It's more than just a playtime session—it’s a chance for children to develop essential skills in communication, motor function, cognitive abilities, and social interactions.

What Makes LMNOP Unique?

What sets LMNOP apart from other early childhood programs is its individualized approach. Each child’s needs are considered, ensuring that the program is accessible to every participant. The group is led by trained professionals and volunteers who create customized learning experiences that support the unique developmental path of each child.

  • Language: Language is at the core of the LMNOP group. Through songs, storytelling, and interactive exercises, children are encouraged to express themselves and develop communication skills in a fun, supportive environment.

  • Music: Music therapy plays an integral part in the group. Not only is music a powerful tool for emotional expression, but it also helps with motor development, rhythm, and auditory processing.

  • Sensory Exploration: The LMNOP group provides various sensory activities designed to engage children’s senses, such as tactile play, visual stimulation, and auditory exercises. These sensory experiences help children develop sensory processing skills and enhance their ability to interact with the environment.

  • Motor Skills Practice: Through physical activities like hand-eye coordination games, fine motor exercises (such as stacking blocks or drawing), and gross motor activities (like crawling or jumping), children practice and strengthen their motor skills in a playful and engaging way. These activities support both fine and gross motor development, which are essential for everyday tasks.

A Supportive Community for Families

GiGi’s Playhouse isn't just about providing services for children; it's also about supporting the families that care for them. The LMNOP group fosters a sense of community where parents and caregivers can connect with others who understand the joys and challenges of raising a child with Down syndrome.

Parents can share experiences, seek advice, and form lasting relationships with others navigating similar journeys. This sense of camaraderie is one of the most valuable aspects of the program. Families feel supported, knowing they have access to a network of people who truly care and are there to celebrate every milestone along the way.

Creating Confidence for the Future

The LMNOP group isn’t just focused on what children can do today—it’s about building a foundation for their future. Through the activities, children not only gain valuable developmental skills but also build confidence in their abilities. The program sets children on a path to success, ensuring they are equipped with the tools they need to navigate the world around them.
